Review: The Forty Rules of Love

The Forty Rules of LoveThe Forty Rules of Love by Elif Shafak
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This seems like a book that tries to unfold the divine rules of love; the love of man with Creator. The way this book has tried to deliver the message of selflessness to conquer the divine love was incredible. Like the way in which its main character has presented itself as a selfless mystic hero who has helped everyone who came on his way was the beauty of this writing.

Another amazing aspect of The Forty Rules of Love is that; it has presented two of the very strong historical personalities (Rumi, Shams) with equal consideration. While on the way to explore Shams's character in this book; we also indulged to read more about Rumi.

Let me discuss here another main thing behind incredible success of this writing, and that is the quality of sentences and the selection of words. It truly comes under best writings in terms of its writing style.

Why I rated this book as 4 star rating is that; it could be seen that some of its aspects were exaggerated. For example; the way writer has presented the character of a girl who was married to main lead, but we could understand that the writer has added these elements to give it a touch of true novel kind of a story. Anyhow whoever understands the history very well could filter out the true idea of this writing in his/her own way.

Overall; this book no doubt comes under very good writings with some incredible messages to follow spirituality. Elif Shafak has contributed to the presentation of this old story in a manner to fulfill the needs of modern readers and literature.
